Workplace Experience Survey

What is the Workplace Experience Survey?

The Workplace Experience Survey is a brief online survey that asks undergraduate students to report the workplace experiences they’ve engaged in during their time at UW-Madison. Students can report upcoming or accepted experiences or experiences they’ve already completed during their undergraduate career.

This information is helpful to inform current and future students about potential experiences they could participate in while at UW-Madison. It also helps to educate career services and academic department staff on the types of workplace experiences completed by students.

How do I access the Workplace Experience Survey?

Students will receive email messaging from Career Services at UW-Madison and your school/college’s career services office encouraging you to complete the Workplace Experience Survey.

This survey (and the First Destination Survey you’ll complete at the time of graduation) is housed in 12twenty, a product owned and managed by UW-Madison. The emails prompting you to take the survey will come from notifications@wisc.12twenty.com

Here is an example of what one of the emails asking you to take the survey will look like.

You can also visit go.wisc.edu/workplace-experience to access the survey at any time. You’ll be prompted to log in using your UW-Madison NetID and password credentials before completing the survey. Once logged in, select “Report Status” under Workplace Experience, then select the appropriate workplace experience from the menu and continue to the full survey.

Students have access to the survey during your entire time as an undergraduate student at UW-Madison.

Can I report multiple workplace experiences?

Yes! Report all workplace experiences you’ve engaged in during your undergraduate career at UW-Madison.

When should I report my workplace experiences?

You can share your workplace experiences with us at any time: when you accept an experience, during the experience, or after you’ve completed it.

How long will it take to complete the survey?

This survey will take you 3 minutes or less to complete!

I need Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization for my workplace experience. Does this survey provide that?

No, it does not. You will need to work with your career services office and International Student Services (ISS) to get your experience authorized for CPT. Learn more about Curricular Practical Training on the International Student Services website.

How will information gathered in the Workplace Experience Survey be used?

The information you share helps UW–Madison and its career services offices understand how students are gaining real-world experience, improve support and resources, strengthen connections with employers, and highlight the amazing work Badgers are doing. By reporting your experience, you’re also helping future students discover valuable opportunities and prepare for their own career journeys.

Will my individual survey data be publicly available?

No! We use and share student data in the aggregate, which means the data has been combined and is presented in a summary form instead of individual responses.

Your individual survey responses are protected, and your information will not be shared publicly.

You will notice, however, that the survey asks if you are interested in providing feedback or testimonials about your experience. If you select “yes,” your career services office may reach out to you to learn more about your experience to help guide improvements in career resources, build strong relationships with employers, and highlight the real impact of student workplace experiences.

Is this the same as the First Destination Survey?

No, this is a separate survey. The First Destination Survey focuses on your primary plan after graduation, while the Workplace Experience focuses on your professional experiences as an undergraduate student at UW-Madison.

Where can I find help securing an internship or workplace experience?

We’ve put together some effective strategies to guide your search. We also highly recommend connecting with your school or college’s career services office for specialized guidance.

I’m having an issue with the survey. Who do I contact?

You can email plans@provost.wisc.edu and we’ll be happy to assist you with any issues!
